Configuring a Date Picker Question

A Date Picker question allows users to select a single date from a calendar. This question type helps ensure dates are entered in a consistent format and eliminates manual date entry errors.

Adding a Date Picker Question
  1. Navigate to the desired section of your form.
  2. Select Add Question.
  3. Select Date Picker from the Question Type dropdown.
  4. Configure the available settings.
  5. Select Save.

Configuration Options

Question Text

The question or prompt displayed to users.

Example:

  • What is your date of birth?
  • When did your project begin?
  • What is your expected graduation date?

Mandatory Field

Determines whether users must select a date before submitting.

Enabled

  • Users must select a date.

Disabled

  • Users may leave the question unanswered.

Required for Draft Submission

Determines whether users must select a date before saving a submission as a draft.

Enabled

  • Users cannot save a draft without selecting a date.

Disabled

  • Users can save a draft and return later.

Note: This setting is typically used only for information that is required at the beginning of the submission process.


Required Field Message

The message displayed when a user attempts to submit without selecting a required date.

Example Messages:

  • Please select a date.
  • This field is required.
  • A date must be entered before continuing.

Help Hover Text

Additional instructions displayed when users hover over the help icon.

Example Uses:

  • Select your date of birth.
  • Enter the date your project officially began.
  • Use the expected completion date if the final date is not yet known.

Best Practice: Use Help Hover Text to provide clarification about the type of date users should select.


Hide Question From Reviewers

Determines whether reviewers can view the question and selected date.

Enabled

  • The question and response are hidden from reviewers.

Disabled

  • Reviewers can view the question and response.

Common Uses:

  • Internal administrative dates
  • Workflow tracking fields
  • Information not required during evaluation

Hide Question From Submitters

Determines whether submitters can view the question.

Enabled

  • The question is hidden from submitters.
  • The question can still be viewed and completed by administrators, if applicable.

Disabled

  • The question is visible to submitters.

Important: When using an E-Reference question type, this setting must be enabled. E-Reference questions are intended to be completed by reference providers and should not be visible to applicants.

Best Practices

  • Use Date Picker instead of a text field when collecting dates to ensure consistent formatting.
  • Clearly specify which date users should provide in the Question Text.
  • Use Help Hover Text when additional clarification is needed.
  • Only make the field required if the date is necessary for eligibility, reporting, or evaluation purposes.
  • Consider whether reviewers need access to the date before enabling visibility to reviewers.
