Configuring a Month & Year Question

A Month & Year question allows users to select a month and year without specifying a specific day.

This question type is useful when collecting dates where the exact day is either unknown or not important, such as graduation dates, employment periods, certifications, or membership start dates.

Adding a Month & Year Question

  1. Navigate to the desired section of your form.

  2. Select Add Question.

  3. Select Month & Year from the Question Type dropdown.

  4. Configure the available settings.

  5. Select Save.


Configuration Options

Question Text

The question or prompt displayed to users.

Example:

  • What is your expected graduation date?

  • When did you begin your current position?

  • What month and year did you receive this certification?

Best Practice: Clearly indicate the information users should provide and whether approximate dates are acceptable.


Date Range

Allows administrators to limit the years users can select.

Start Year

The earliest year that can be selected.

Example Uses:

  • Restrict graduation dates to recent years.

  • Prevent users from selecting dates before a program's existence.

  • Limit employment dates to a specific timeframe.


End Year

The latest year that can be selected.

Example Uses:

  • Restrict future dates.

  • Limit anticipated graduation dates.

  • Define a reporting period.


Clear Dates

Removes any configured date restrictions and allows users to select from all available months and years.

Tip: Use date restrictions when you want to prevent invalid or unrealistic selections.


Mandatory Field

Determines whether users must provide a month and year before submitting.

Enabled

  • Users must select a month and year.

Disabled

  • Users may leave the question unanswered.


Required for Draft Submission

Determines whether users must complete the question before saving a submission as a draft.

Enabled

  • Users cannot save a draft without selecting a month and year.

Disabled

  • Users can save a draft and return later.

Note: This setting is typically used only when the information is required early in the application process.


Help Hover Text

Additional instructions displayed when users hover over the help icon.

Example Uses:

  • Enter your anticipated graduation month and year.

  • If you do not know the exact month, select your best estimate.

  • The specific day is not required.

Best Practice: Use Help Hover Text to explain the type of date being requested and any assumptions users should make.


Hide Question From Reviewers

Determines whether reviewers can view the question and response.

Enabled

  • The question and response are hidden from reviewers.

Disabled

  • Reviewers can view the question and response.

Common Uses:

  • Internal administrative fields

  • Personal information not required during review

  • Workflow tracking information


Hide Question From Submitters

Determines whether submitters can view the question.

Enabled

  • The question is hidden from submitters.

  • The question can still be viewed and completed by administrators, if applicable.

Disabled

  • The question is visible to submitters.

Important: When using an E-Reference question type, this setting must be enabled. E-Reference questions are intended to be completed by reference providers and should not be visible to applicants.
