Choosing a Different Mentor or Mentee for a Match
RQ suggests the strongest available match for each mentor or mentee, but you're never locked into the system's top pick. If you'd rather pair someone with a different candidate, you can choose from a full ranked list of everyone relevant to them.
This is different from the Suggested Matches list, which only shows the system's suggestions for you to review and approve — it doesn't let you swap in a different candidate. To choose someone else, go through the Matching Dashboard as described below.
How to open the ranked candidate list
- Go to Admin Tools > Matching Dashboard.
- Find the mentor or mentee card you want to match, and click Create Match at the bottom of their card.
This opens a panel titled "[Name] - Create Match," showing a ranked list of relevant candidates for that person (for example, Relevant Mentor (Ranked by %)), sorted by match percentage.
Creating the match
- In the ranked list, select the candidate you'd like to pair them with using the radio button next to their name. You can also search the list by name if it's long.
- Click Create Match.
This creates a brand-new match right away it doesn't edit or replace any existing suggested pairing, it simply creates the match you selected.
What you'll see in the panel
- The person you're creating a match for, shown at the top with their role (Mentor or Mentee) and a View Profile link that opens their full profile in a separate view
- A ranked list of candidates below, each showing their name, role, match percentage, and an expandable arrow for more detail
- A search bar to filter the candidate list
- A Create Match button, which is available both at the top of the panel and can be used once you've made a selection
This gives you the flexibility to override the system's top suggestion any time you have context it doesn't — for example, a scheduling conflict or a preference the participant mentioned outside the platform.
