Workflow Action: Assign to a Review Phase

Action: Assign to a Review Phase

Use this action to automatically move a submission into — or out of — a specific review phase, based on the conditions you've set.

This can be added to a rule's Then step or its optional Otherwise step; configuration works identically in either place.

Configuring it

Select a Review Phase from the dropdown. Choosing "Not Assigned" clears whatever phase the submission is currently in, rather than moving it to a new one.

Note: The phases listed here come directly from your program's review-round configuration. If a phase you expect isn't showing up, it likely hasn't been set up yet under the program's review settings — configure it there first.

Common use cases

  • Automatically move submissions into "Committee Review" once they're tagged eligible by an earlier rule.
  • Use "Not Assigned" as an Otherwise action to pull ineligible submissions back out of the review queue.

Things to watch for

  • This action sets the phase — it doesn't add a submission to multiple phases at once. If a submission is already in a different phase, running this action moves it, it doesn't duplicate it.
  • If you're chaining rules (one rule assigns a phase, a later rule acts based on that phase), remember rules run in the order they're listed in the workflow — double-check your rule order if the sequencing matters. See Activating, Managing & Reordering Workflows for how rule order works.
